Department of Theater

Critical study of theater as a global phenomenon along with practice in the context of a professional school.

Theater

Our students become well-rounded artists and researchers by immersing themselves in their chosen areas as well as exploring the other creative disciplines that are available.

The Theater Department is looking forward to continued growth and outreach as we expand our awareness of the community we are a part of — both on UCLA’s campus and beyond.

In 2023–2024, we will support interdepartmental collaboration as we present, with the Herb Albert School of Music, OPERA UCLA (Quake and Les mamelles de Tirésias). We will also raise awareness of original plays by women and Black playwrights/directors (A List of Happenings and SuperAmerica). We are excited to showcase international and underrepresented voices on our stages while giving agency to graduate students (Project III presentations) and undergraduates (Undergrad One Acts) as well.

Upcoming Performances

Seeking an ensemble of actors with heightened language skills who are interested in exploring identity issues of America utilizing the language and setting of 1939 through the lens of today.
